Many surf lifesavers engage in regular competition to maintain their skills and fitness. These competitions, or surf carnivals, are held at club, regional, state, national and international levels.

Surf Lifesavers have the opportunity to compete in a range of disciplines including iron person, ski, swim, board, surf boat, springs, flags, distance running, pool rescue and IRB racing. Competitors also have many team events that they can take part in and they can do it from age 8 or 108.

Eligibility

To be eligible to compete in any Surf Life Saving Australia competition for Toowoon Bay SLSC a member must:

  • Be a registered and current financial member of Toowoon Bay SLSC.
  • Have a minimum qualification of either a Surf Rescue Certificate (Juniors) or a Bronze Medallion and be proficient in that award.
  • Meet the patrol hour requirements according to your membership category to compete. This means that Active members must have completed a minimum of 25 hours of patrols in the preceding calendar year.
  • Have met any other competition eligibility qualification requirements for specific events e.g. IRB, Surf Boat (sweep), Patrol Competition, First Aid.

Toowoon Bay SLSC offers a range of training opportunities, with training groups on Saturday mornings involving Masters, CANS on Friday afternoons, Junior board training/beach training and U15-s to Masters training on Sunday mornings.  The training activities cover swims, board paddling, catching waves, flags, swimming, sprints and general aerobic fitness.  We also have skis to accommodate the learner ski paddler, and experienced ski paddlers willing to coach anyone wishing to learn how to handle a surf ski.

As we approach the start of the 2021/22 Surf Life Saving Season, a range of restrictions are in place across NSW.

We continue to monitor the latest information aligned to official sources including the Australian Government Department of Health, NSW Health and NSW Sport, and the impact of this information on Surf Life Saving activities.

Restrictions relating to community sport and mass gatherings have not yet been determined and advised by the NSW Government when they are advised, SLSNSW will notify clubs.
